The castle of Montalto is in one of the loveliest and most unspoiled parts of the Chianti area of Tuscany, between Siena and Arezzo.
Montalto is centrally located in Italy for touring and sight-seeing and can be easily reached from the A1 highway.
The drive from the Florence airport takes less than 1½ hour, from the Pisa airport about two hours, from the Rome airport three hours.
Tuscany is famous for its rich artistic legacy and Montalto is just at its heart.
Everything is within easy reach.
You can discover the Etruscans in the archeological sites of Murlo, feel the middle ages in the tortuous alleys of Siena, be dazzled by the renaissance splendor of the Medici family in Florence.
But there are so many other famous towns nearby: Arezzo, San Gimignano, Perugia, Cortona, Pisa…
You can even do daytrips to Rome and wander among the sumptuous traces of more than 20 centuries.
Towns are close but Montalto is enveloped in the beautiful Tuscan hills.
You will enjoy the beautiful vistas over the farmed fields in the valley, at night you will be able to see the stars again, and during the day you can hike in the woods looking for foxes, porcupines and deer.
You will never tire of exploring the villages, abbeys, castles and simple centuries-old farmhouses that dot the countryside around.
Tuscany has a unique culinary tradition, and is famous for its wines.
In restaurants around Montalto and in local shops (Castelnuovo, Rapolano, Ambra, just 15 minutes away) you can find genuine local prosciutto, wild boar sausages, the real Florentine steak, excellent pecorino sheep cheese, Sienese panforte fruitcake, white truffle, the sharp-tasting olive oil, the famous wines! Chianti of course, we are exactly in that area, but also Supertuscans, Brunello di Montalcino, or Nobile di Montepulciano: these towns are less than one hour away.

Staying at Montalto you can experience first-hand the culture and traditions of Tuscany.
The most exciting traditional event is the Palio historical horse race in Siena.
There is also the Giostra del Saracino in Arezzo, or the Calcio storico in Florence.
And there is always a ‘sagra’ (festival dedicated to a particular local product) somewhere, there are great music festivals throughout the year (the Chigiana season, Siena Jazz, Maggio Fiorentino), and antique fairs such as the big monthly one in Arezzo.
